Gael’s Comeback

After a long absence (We missed you, La Monf!) due to a wrist injury, Gaël makes his comeback on the courts at the Indian Wells tournament in March 2023.

Unfortunately, he is eliminated in the first round by Jordan Thompson
(6-3, 6-1).

To motivate himself and get back in shape, he then participates in the Challenger tournament in Phoenix. His opponent, Alexander Shevchenko, wins the match in the first round despite Gaël winning the second set (4-6, 7-6, 6-3).

It’s a rather timid start, as he is not “100% comfortable with his body.”

With Gaël’s desire to play still strong, he continues with the Miami tournament. In the first round against his fellow countryman Ugo Humbert, he withdraws after six games (3-3). A tough blow for this comeback.

After some introspection, Monfils makes big decisions about his future in tennis.
