Heel Pain Issues: An Update

For his return to the Tour, Gaël played the Masters 1000 event in Madrid where he lost to Novak Djokovic in the last 16.

Due to the ongoing pain he experienced from his right heel, he decided to withdraw from the 2022 edition of the French Open. He would then miss the grass season including Queen’s, Eastbourne and Wimbledon.

At that stage, he was still hoping to return for the European Clay season where he entered Hamburg in Germany and Kitzbühel in Austria. However, the pain was still there, and he could not participate in those tournaments.

After a three months absence, Gaël was back on court at the end of July to prepare for the US Open Series. He played the Rogers Cup in both singles and doubles.

He posted some strong wins before having to retire against Jack Draper in the last 16. He was not able to continue in doubles either where he had partnered with French player Benjamin Bonzi.
